I exercise regularly but improvements are very slow. How do I know if slow progress is normal or if something is limiting my results??
Slow progress is often normal, especially after the beginner phase, but it becomes concerning if strength, endurance, or body composition haven’t changed for 8–12 weeks despite consistent training. Common limiting factors include inadequate protein or total calories, poor sleep, high stress (elevated cortisol blunts adaptation), lack of progressive overload, insufficient recovery days, micronutrient deficiencies (iron, vitamin D, B12), or thyroid issues. If your performance is stable and energy is good, you may simply be in the slower, linear phase of adaptation. If you feel fatigued, sore for days, or stuck across all metrics, recovery or nutrition — not effort — is usually the bottleneck.
