Sometimes I feel sudden fast heartbeats even while resting. Is it serious?
Occasional episodes of a fast heartbeat can be triggered by:
- Stress or anxiety
- Excess caffeine
- Energy drinks
- Lack of sleep
- Dehydration
- Intense exercise
Most brief episodes are harmless, but medical attention is recommended if symptoms are accompanied by:
- Chest pain
- Dizziness
- Fainting
- Shortness of breath
Keeping track of when episodes occur may help identify triggers.
Occasional palpitations can result from stress, caffeine intake, dehydration, lack of sleep, or anxiety. In many cases, they are benign. However, if palpitations are frequent, prolonged, or associated with dizziness, chest pain, or fainting, cardiac evaluation is important to rule out arrhythmias.
