I fall asleep easily but wake up around 3 or 4 AM and struggle to sleep again. What causes this pattern? Is it due to depression? Or too much overthinking?
Waking up between 3–4 AM regularly can be related to stress, anxiety, poor sleep hygiene, caffeine intake, alcohol consumption, or an inconsistent sleep schedule.
Helpful strategies include:
- Maintaining a consistent bedtime
- Limiting caffeine after noon
- Avoiding screens before bed
- Practicing relaxation techniques
If frequent awakenings continue for several weeks or affect daytime functioning, a sleep evaluation may be beneficial.
