Almost every time I eat a heavy lunch, I feel sleepy and sluggish afterward. Sometimes I struggle to stay focused during work meetings. The meal usually contains rice, fried foods, and dessert. Is this normal digestion or could something else be happening?
Feeling sleepy after large meals is common. Heavy meals require energy for digestion and may also cause fluctuations in blood sugar levels.
To reduce post-meal fatigue:
- Eat moderate portions
- Include protein and vegetables
- Limit overly greasy foods
- Take a short walk after meals
If extreme fatigue occurs after nearly every meal, discuss it with a healthcare provider.
