I experience painful menstrual cramps almost every month and sometimes rely on painkillers to function normally. A friend suggested trying yoga before and during periods. Are there specific yoga poses that may actually help with cramps and lower back discomfort?
Gentle yoga may help relax muscles, improve circulation, and reduce stress associated with menstrual discomfort.
Commonly recommended poses include:
- Child’s Pose
- Reclining Butterfly Pose
- Cat-Cow stretch
- Supine twists
- Legs-Up-the-Wall Pose
Breathing exercises and relaxation techniques may also help. However, severe or worsening menstrual pain should still be medically evaluated.
