My cycle is usually regular, but this month it’s 5 days late. I’m under work stress. Can stress delay periods?
A period delayed by a few days is often not a cause for concern. Common reasons include:
- Stress
- Travel
- Changes in sleep patterns
- Weight fluctuations
- Increased exercise
- Hormonal changes
If pregnancy is possible, taking a pregnancy test is recommended. If periods continue to be irregular or are repeatedly delayed, consult a gynecologist for further evaluation.
A delay of a few days can occur due to stress, travel, illness, hormonal fluctuations, or minor lifestyle changes. However, if there has been unprotected intercourse, pregnancy should be ruled out. If delays become frequent or cycles become irregular, thyroid disorders, PCOS, or hormonal imbalances should be evaluated. Occasional minor variation is usually not concerning.
