Casemiro ‘Doctrinates’ With Goal and Assist, Manchester United Overtakes Crystal Palace and Advances in the League Cup

At Old Trafford, Manchester United had no trouble defeating Crystal Palace 3-0 and progressing in the English League Cup. The match, which was part of the competition’s third round, was exclusively televised for Star+ subscribers on Tuesday (26). Brazilian midfielder Casemiro was the standout performer of the match, contributing with a goal and an assist.

The Red Devils have been embroiled in controversy this week. Striker Jadon Sancho was banned from the training center after being excluded from the squad by coach Erik Ten Hag. The 23-year-old has yet to issue an apology, and there is no set timeline for his return to the team.

For the clash against the London club, the Dutch coach opted to rest several regular starters and chose a mixed lineup for United.

Just 19 minutes into the first half, Palace suffered a setback when goalkeeper Henderson got injured and was substituted by Johnstone. Shortly thereafter, the home team took the lead. Dalot delivered a low cross from the right side at the edge of the penalty area, and Garnacho finished it smoothly with a first-time strike into the net.

In the 27th minute, Casemiro extended United’s lead. Mason Mount took a corner from the right, and the midfielder outjumped the opposing defense to head the ball into the bottom right corner of the goalkeeper’s net.

In the second half, United added a third goal. Casemiro delivered a cross from the right side to Martial, who skillfully slotted it into the back of the net with his left foot. The two teams are set to face each other again in the Premier League at Old Trafford on Saturday (30) at 11 am (Brasília time).
