Champions League Group A: Bayern Munich Sets Record, Manchester United Suffers Another Loss

Bayern Munich defeated Manchester United (4-3) in the first round of the group stage, but on Tuesday night they played in Copenhagen in the second round, not just hoping for another victory.

he Bavarians also achieved an amazing record, even if this was of least interest to the members of the professional staff.

The peak setting was already achieved in the previous season, that is, they remained undefeated in seventeen away Champions League group matches in a row. In this relevant statistic – tied with Barcelona – they are considered the best team in Europe.

The Catalans set up a seventeen-game streak between November 2006 and October 2012, and Bayern ended it by defeating Köbenhavn.

In the first half, the German champion attacked more, which was indicated by the number of corners (7-1) and attacks (27-20) in addition to the ball possession ratio (64:36) – but we did not see a goal.

However, the home team took the lead in the 56th minute, Lukas Lerager bombed into the right side of the goal. It is true that the Danes could not enjoy the advantage for long.

First, Jamal Musiala shot undefended into the lower left corner in the 67th minute from the penalty area, then Mathys Tel – after some VAR monitoring – already gave the Bavarians the lead after he bombed into the upper left corner. Bayern did not let the victory slip away in the remaining time, thus breaking Barcelona’s previous record.

The other match of the group started with a quick change of goals, in the 17th minute Rasmus Höjlund headed in after Marcus Rashford’s pass, but five minutes later Wilfried Zaha, Galatasaray’s Ivorian striker, equalized.

The scenario was similar at the beginning of the second half, Rasmus Höjlund scored his second goal in the 67th minute – starting from his own half – but four minutes later Kerem Akturkoglu kicked the ball into the bottom right corner.

After another equalization, the turning point followed, as Casemiro received his second yellow card and red card in the 77th minute for the home team. In addition, Galata could take a penalty kick.

However, Mauro Icardi kicked the ball near the left post before the Argentinian striker could have won the game, but he scored in the 81st minute. Manchester United are in a difficult position in terms of promotion, as they started this year’s group stage with two defeats.
