‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ Expert Insight: “Why Six-Pack Abs Are More About Nutrition Than Crunches” (By Fitness Nutrition Specialist — Dr. Raghav Mehta, PhD in Sports Nutrition).

Pretty much, people associate the achievement of six-pack abs with doing such exercises as crunches, planks, and a lot of cardio. However, the truth is that abs are made in the kitchen, not only in the gym.
In my 15 years of experience with athletes, models, and fitness enthusiasts, I noticed one pattern that is very obvious — those people who do not see their abs usually neglect nutrition. A body fat percentage of less than 10% is a must for the abdominal muscles to be visible, and this is almost unachievable without a proper diet.
Let me break it down for you — I have clients who train like maniacs for several months but fail to see their abs because they consume “healthy junk”: energy bars, processed protein shakes, or an overdose of cheat meals. On the other hand, clients who commit themselves to clean nutrition, calorie cycling, and portion control achieve their goals even if their workouts are not very intense.
One of my clients, a 34-year-old corporate executive, managed to get six-pack abs in only 12 weeks by adhering to three simple principles:

  • Protein consumption at the level of 2g per kg of body weight.
  • A diet low in carbohydrate and sodium.
  • Maintaining a constant caloric deficit (through the use of smart food swaps rather than starvation).

He just mastered his nutrition and did not put in extra hours at the gym.
So, the “8 Golden Rules” mentioned above are absolutely correct. If I were to state it in the simplest terms:

  • Eat clean, rather than less.
  • Drink water adequately.
  • Do not consume empty calories such as alcohol, sugary drinks, and fried snacks.
  • Most importantly, always be patient.

Keep in mind — abs are not built in a day. They are built meal by meal.
Final Takeaway: Six-pack abs come 70% from nutrition, 20% from training, and 10% from patience. Once you arrange your plate properly, the abs will come ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌naturally.
